SMITHTOWN, NY- Sunday August 22 marked the anniversary of a momentous day in American history, the day on which Dr. Henry Kissinger was named Secretary of State by Former President Richard Nixon. Some 37 years later, Dr. Kissinger has formally announced his endorsement of Chris Cox (R), candidate for Congress in New York’s First Congressional District.
“I endorse Chris Cox. I believe he will exercise vigorous and honest leadership,” declared the renowned foreign policy expert.
In 1973, Dr. Kissinger was sworn in as the 56th Secretary of State. During his tenure, Dr. Kissinger was the go-between in the secret negotiations that eventually opened relations between the U.S. and communist China. He held the position until 1977.
Dr. Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for his role in arranging a ceasefire in North Vietnam. He was also honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, in 1977 and the Medal of Liberty in 1986.
At present, Dr. Kissinger is Chairman of Kissinger Associates, Inc., an international consulting firm. He is a member of the Defense Policy Board. He also holds positions as a Trustee Emeritus of the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as an Advisor to the Board of Directors of the American Express Company.
