Traveling On Landing Ave Was Dangerous And Almost Impossible


Multiple motor vehicle accidents were reported on Landing Ave. in Smithtown.  The photo on the far right shows cars lined up along Landing Ave. Drivers were confronted with a harrowing trip up the Landing Ave. hill which was covered with black ice. Some opted to wait it out and others slowly turned south onto Oakside Road. The two mv incidents shown are just two of the cars that spun out of control. (photos courtesy of C. Troccoli)

There were also many injuries caused by falls on residential properties.

In the photo celebrating his baptism were his parents Jose Miguel Rosario and Corina Fitzpatrick-Rosario and his Godparents, Katelyn Ann Fitzpatrick and Michael Edward Fitzpatrick.

Walsh Allegedly Represented Falsely That He Worked Regular and Overtime Hours for The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office When He Was Playing Golf, Visiting Casinos, or Performing Work on Behalf of the Suffolk County Conservative Party

Suffolk County Conservative Party Chairman Edward M. Walsh, Jr. was arrested today on charges that he engaged in a scheme to steal wages for regular and overtime hours in connection with his employment with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office (“SCSO”). He was arraigned today before United States Magistrate Judge A. Kathleen Tomlinson at the federal courthouse in Central Islip.

The charges were announced by Loretta E. Lynch, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and George Venizelos, Assistant Director-in-Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Field Office (FBI).

As alleged in the criminal complaint unsealed today, from January 2011 to April 2014, Walsh, a SCSO Correction Officer III Investigator, falsely represented to the SCSO that he had worked certain regular and overtime hours when, in fact, he did not. read more

Kings Park Graduate Craig Biggio - Elected To Baseball Hall Of Fame

Craig Biggio (photo wikipedia)Craig Biggio’s path to big league stardom took him from high school football standout to a position change many in baseball thought was all but impossible.

Along the way, Biggio amassed seven All-Star Game selections, 3,060 hits and the admiration of fans and teammates.

Today, he joins the game’s legends in Cooperstown

Born Dec. 14, 1965 in Smithtown, N.Y., Biggio starred at Kings Park High School on Long Island in football, and seemed destined to become one of the top recruited running backs in the nation. But baseball beckoned, and he accepted a partial baseball scholarship to Seton Hall University – quickly establishing himself as a pro prospect. In 1987, he was taken in the first round (22nd overall pick) by the Houston Astros in the MLB Draft.

Be A Part of History - Smithtown's Historic 350th Anniversary Celebration Relay

On Sunday, March 1st,2015, the Smithtown 350 Foundation kicks the 350th anniversary year off in earnest with the Richard Bull Smythe relay run. This Olympic-torch style relay honors the spirit of town-founder Richard Smythe’s legendary ride around the borders of Smithtown! Participants join together to run thirty-six consecutive one-mile legs through each of the town’s hamlets and villages. Runners will pass a ceremonial proclamation baton along the route that will be read at the conclusion of the run, officially opening the year- long festivities. The cost to sponsor a mile and participate in the run is S250. Miles are available on a first- come, first-served basis, and ten participants will be allowed to run per each sponsored mile.
