MAN ARRESTED AFTER INJURING DEPUTY SHERIFF WHILE FLEEING A TRAFFIC STOP

Holbrook man dragged Deputy Sheriff with his vehicle while fleeing arrest for warrant

(Suffolk County, NY) On October 10, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff Investigators arrested Christopher Brown, 37 of Holbrook, for assaulting an officer and resisting arrest among other charges after he injured a Deputy Sheriff while trying to flee the scene of a traffic stop to avoid being arrested for a warrant.

“I commend the swift efforts of the Deputy Sheriffs involved in this investigation, who quickly located and apprehended a suspect whose reckless disregard for the law led to the injury of a Deputy Sheriff. This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the dangerous work our Deputies face nightly as they patrol to ensure the safety of our roads,” said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr.

On September 28, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Brown was pulled over by a Deputy Sheriff in a traffic stop on Lincoln Avenue in Bohemia. While standing at the driver’s side window the Deputy Sheriff informed the operator that he had a warrant for his arrest from Amityville Police Department. The driver put the vehicle in drive and attempted to flee, dragging the Deputy Sheriff alongside the vehicle and causing injury to his leg. Brown fled the scene and the vehicle was soon located abandoned.

Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau investigators conducted an extensive investigation, locating numerous potential home addresses and locations for Brown including his work and other known associates. Ultimately, investigators were able to locate Brown on October 10 and he was arrested.  He was charged with:

The original Amityville PD warrant for:

Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle

Unlicensed driver

Unlawful plate display

And additional charges of:

Assault, 2nd degree

Assault, 3rd degree

Resisting arrest

Reckless endangerment, 2nd degree

Obstructing governmental administration, 2nd degree

2 counts of Unlawful fleeing a police officer, 3rd degree

2 counts of Reckless Driving

Brown is due in First District Court on October 16 for the charges related to the September 28 incident.  For more information on the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, please visit www.suffolksheriff.com.
