In Loving Memory Constance Ruth Purick Hunter

Beloved Constance “Connie” Hunter, 72, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on April 1, 2014 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Raleigh, North Carolina.

She was born on February 22, 1942, to parents Harold and Gertrude (Luther) Purick.  She grew up with sisters Nancy and Susan in Smithtown, Long Island, New York.

Connie graduated from Smithtown High School in 1959. She played field hockey, danced the twist, led her cheerleading squad, was elected prom queen and voted Most Popular. She went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Cornell University in 1963. There she met the love of her life, her husband of 51 years, Thomas Malcolm Hunter.

She put her creativity, passion and intelligence into making a home for Tom and her four daughters. She sewed clothes, covered “mushroom” baskets for her friends and made Halloween costumes for her kids. Connie never missed a chance to make a holiday special. She was a great cook who was ahead of her time preparing healthy meals for her large family. She was a talented decorator with an expertise in wallpapering, stenciling and furniture restoration.  She had a quick, dry wit, a green thumb and was one heck of a tennis player.

Connie was one in a billion. To know her was to know warmth, love and happiness.  She cherished beach vacations and belly laughs with friends.  She loved fresh flowers, tea and scones, hot fudge sundaes, and the sounds of babies and laughter. Connie was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and a loyal friend. Above all she was a lady. She will be missed.

Connie is survived by her husband, Thomas Malcolm Hunter; sister Susan Purick Collins; daughters Mary Hunter Hieronimus, Tamara Hunter Durham, Rebecca Hunter Markley, and Sarah Hunter Cassetta and 13 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Nancy Gene Purick.

A private memorial service will be held later this year to honor and celebrate Connie’s loving legacy.
