GRECO - Loretta, age 79 of Smithtown, NY. Adored wife of Sal Greco passed away on June 20th. She lost her battle with Alzheimer’s, although she put up a good fight. She spent her last days surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife of Sal and a loving mother of four children Scott, Laurie, Steven and Kristie. Grandmother to nine grandchildren Michelle, Dana, Justin, Jason, Andy, Kaitlin, Jamie, Loretta and Christopher. She will be missed because she was the best person on this planet. Devoted wife to her beloved husband Vicente (deceased) for 60 years. Loving mother of John (Suzan) Diaz, Ana Diaz, Martin (Jessica) Diaz and Maria (George) Gates. Cherished grandmother of Martin Vicente, Alexander, Nicole (Tarek), Natalie (Ryan), Marissa, Deana, Jacquelyn, and Kristin. Survived by her beloved sister Inez and brother Jaime Martinez. Retired from the American Bureau of Shipping, formerly in New York, NY. Accomplished concert pianist and violinist, played with the Nassau Pops family for 20 years. She held strong beliefs in God, hard work and education. She loved her adopted country while never forgetting the land of her youth. Above all else she loved her husband and family and was never happier than when surrounded by them. Memorial Mass was celebrated at St Patrick’s R.C. Obituary - Estelle Gouras


GOURAS- Estelle, age 85, of Smithtown, NY passed peacefully with her family at her side. 
Estelle was born in Brooklyn in 1931 to immigrant parents from Greece. In 1933 the family moved to Port Jefferson, NY, where her father James Stergakos was partners with his brother in law Charles Koutrakis at the Elks Restaurant in Port Jefferson.

Estelle grew up in Port Jefferson, graduating from Port Jefferson High School and went to work in People’s National Bank in Patchogue. She was the first Sunday school teacher for St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church in Blue Point, NY, where she was active and met her husband James Gouras.

They were married in 1956 and bought a home in Smithtown at which time Estelle worked at Tinker Bank in East Setauket. She held various positions from teller, manager of the bookkeeping department, to finally vice president of the bank. She later became a full time mother to two daughters, Tina and Diana, while working with her husband Jim in the fur shop, Gouras Furs of Smithtown. They retired in 1988 and enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.

Estelle was the beloved wife of James. Cherished mother of Tina (Greg) Babigian and Diana (Greg) Torigian and the adored grandmother of Christopher, Stephanie and Nickolas. Dear daughter of the late James and Evangeline Stergakos. Loving sister of the late John Stergakos. She also belonged to several organizations including Daughters of Penelope (Order of AHEPHA), Eastern Stars (Masons) and Smithtown Historical Society. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church in Blue Point. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery. Donations may be made in Estelle’s name to either Narcolepsy Network, 46 Union Drive #A212, North Kingstown, RI 02852 or St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church, 77 Montauk Highway, Blue Point, NY 11715.
