Obituary - Walter J. Green Sr.

Green, Walter J. Sr, died on July 3, 2011 after a protracted battle with heart and kidney disease.  He died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. He was 74 years old.  Walter is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Patricia, his beloved children Walter, Jr. and his wife Kelly, James and his wife Peggy.  Walter also leaves behind four adored grandchildren, Catherine, Kevin, Evelyn and Sarah.  His sister in law Kathleen Parisi and Ron Horley. Walter also leaves behind his sister Margaret Flynn and his brother Richard Green.

Born and raised in Cambria Heights, Queens, he served three years in the United States Army.  In 1961, he graduated on the Dean’s list from St. John’s University and was also a member Of the Delta Mu Honor Society.  In 1962 Walter began what would be a 40 year career with State Farm Insurance. He retired in 2002 having been an agent for over 35 years.

He loved spending time with his family and friends. His interests included history, sailing, traveling, gardening, puzzling and flying ( having earned his Private pilots license in the late 1970’s). Walter also was a voracious reader. He seemed to have an encyclopedic knowledge of almost any subject. Those that knew him would often say. “If you want to know something, just ask Walt”. Every life is unique, but anyone who knew Walter understood that he was special. He was a quiet and brilliant man who always put the needs of others first.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at Sts. Philip & James R C Church, St. James, NY.  Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
