Donald C. Munro Post 944 Announces Its Boys State Delegates

The Donald C. Munro Post No. 944 of the American Legion, with the cooperation of Kings Park High School is proud to announce its Boys State Delegates for this year. Thomas Cilla was chosen as the Boys State representative by the Kings Park Post. Luke Toscano was chosen as the alternate who will also attend Boys State representing another Suffolk County district.

The selection was based on “leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty, service, honesty, cooperation, maturity and a personal interview by representatives of the American Legion.”  The Legion’s sincere interest in Kings Park students and their generosity is very much appreciated by the students, parents and school officials alike.

This summer, Boys State will take place from June 24th through June 29th, at SUNY Morrisville. Our student delegates will join boys from American Legion Posts throughout New York State to form a mythical 51st State.  It will be a week filled with learning and the practical application of government and politics.  They will be involved in the formation of political parties, caucuses, conventions, platform development, campaigning and elections.  The government of this new State will begin at the local/town level, proceed to the county and finally to the State level.

Congratulations to all our Boys State Representatives and a huge thank you to the American Legion for providing this unique experience.

Nesconset Resident John Feal Nominates Kirsten Gillibrand at NYS Democratic Convention

At Monday’s NYS Democratic Convention Nesconset resident John Feal made the nominating speech for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

John Feal was a demolition supervisor who was injured at Ground Zero. John has been recognized as the moving force behind the Zadroga Bill (providing funds for medical coverage for first responders) becoming federal law.  Zadroga legislation was signed by President Obama and became law in January 2011.

John Feal started the FEALGOOD Foundation to bring recognition and support to the Hero’s of 9-11.  The Foundation has built a memorial park in Nesconset listing the names of the first responders who have died as a result of their participation and exposure to toxins at Ground Zero. The park is located at the intersection of Smithtown Blvd. and Gibbs Pond Road in Nesconset.
