Man Dies In Motor Vehicle Crash in Hauppauge 

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a 85-year-old man in Hauppauge this evening.

Michael Santor, 85, was driving a 1994 Infiniti eastbound on Veterans Highway, when he attempted to make a left at Spartan Lane and struck C.B. Varlack, 65, who was driving a 2006 Chevy westbound on Veterans Highway at 6:10 p.m. C.B. Varlack then crashed into a light pole. Santor and Varlack were transported to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown. Santor was pronounced dead at 7:14 p.m. Varlack had non-life-threatening head and chest trauma.  

The vehicles were was impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.

This article was corrected.  The original article stated Michael Santor struck the light pole.
