Suffolk County Sheriff's Office Is Taking DWI Seriously And So Should You

SUFFOLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MAKES FOUR DWI ARRESTS

( In New York  A BAC of more than .05 percent is legal evidence that you are impaired, a BAC of .08 percent or higher is evidence of intoxication, and a BAC of .18 percent or more is evidence of aggravated driving while intoxicated.)

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY) Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested four impaired drivers for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) on Saturday, June 22. One of these drivers was charged with Aggravated DWI, and multiple drivers had high blood alcohol count (BAC).

 As part of ongoing DWI enforcement by the Sheriff’s Office, deputies are always out patrolling for those who are making poor choices when it comes to driving home. Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. has increased DWI enforcement and has taken to social media to remind residents, young and old, to drink responsibly and have a designated driver or call for a ride if they have been drinking.

AGGRAVATED DWI

On June 22, Deputy Sheriffs pulled over Santos F. Miguel, 25, of Flanders, for failing to maintain lane of travel on the Long Island Expressway.  He was observed swerving over the lines separating lanes of travel in the roadway several times, driving over the white hazard markings at the off ramp of exit 62, driving on the right shoulder just east of exit 62 and traveling at an approximate speed of 65 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. Upon field sobriety test assessment, Santos’s speech was slurred, eyes were bloodshot, watery and glassy, movements were unsteady, and an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.  When asked how much he had to drink tonight the defendant stated, “I had a beer.” An open alcoholic beverage container in a transparent plastic cup containing yellow liquid was found in plain view in the center console cup-holder between the front driver and passenger seats which the driver stated was a mixed drink containing a kind of whiskey. Santos was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test, and registered a BAC of .19.

ADDITIONAL DWI ARRESTS INCLUDE:

Hector E. Lojo, 31, of Brooklyn, was stopped in the middle of a street, and then once in motion, failed to then signal onto the roadway in Patchogue. In addition, he was observed partially driving on the shoulder of the road, as well as swerving onto the center median of the roadway.  Upon field sobriety test assessment, Lojo’s speech was slurred, eyes were bloodshot, watery and glassy, movements were unsteady, and there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Lojo was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test, and registered a BAC of .16.

Sara A. Blumenauer, 30, of Shirley, was stopped by Deputy Sheriffs in Patchogue after she drove the wrong way on Church Street and then failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Church Street and South Street and failed to maintain her lane of travel northbound on Holbrook Road. Blumenauer’s speech was slurred, eyes were bloodshot and glassy, movements were unsteady and there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Blumenauer was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test, and registered a BAC of .11.

Jenna P. Pappas, 31, of Coram, was stopped in Patchogue after failing to stop at a stop sign.  Her speech was slurred, eyes were bloodshot, watery and glassy, movements were unsteady, and an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath.  When asked if she had consumed any alcoholic beverages, she verbally responded with, “Yeah, probably like 3 beers”. Pappas was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test, and registered a BAC of .12.
