Smithtown, NY: The Town of Smithtown in conjunction with the State of New York will hold its second Community Meeting on Thursday, September 12th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at R.J.O. Intermediate School. The meeting will take place in the Cafeteria Room and is open to the public. During this interactive community event, participants will be updated on the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and view presentations of the project proposals. During the workshop the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback and evaluations on the potential project submissions. R.J.O. Intermediate School is located at 99 Old Dock Rd, in Kings Park, NY.

In January 2024, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that Kings Park was the winner of $10 million in Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) funding. This is one of the largest annual grants awarded by New York State, to one community in each of the State’s ten Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) regions. The Downtown Revitalization Initiative works to transform downtown neighborhoods into vibrant communities. There are many ways individuals can become actively involved in the Kings Park community’s DRI process including participating in the community meetings.

Upcoming DRI Schedule:
Local Planning Committee (LPC) working meeting: In addition to the community workshop, the fifth Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Local Planning Committee (LPC) working meeting will be held on Thursday, October 5th from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM at Kings Park High School, Room 101, located at 200 Rte 25A, Kings Park, NY 11754. All Local Planning Committee (LPC) meetings are working group sessions for committee members. While these meetings are open to the public, they are not intended to be interactive public workshops.
